Heidner - Bioeconomy

About / Contact

Heidner is the leading Norwegian bioeconomy cluster for innovations in sustainable food production. The cluster delivers technology and knowledge that contribute to a sustainable food production globally, and also works towards increased food production in Norway. The cluster’s core activities are related to supplying essential input factors to the food production value chain, such as geneetic material, feed and fertilizers, as well as utilising and adding value to the residual materials. Heidner is a research-driven cluster, as evident by numerous research collaborations and joint innovation projects. Unique knowledge, skills and innovation is key to the cluster’s continued sales growth in both national and international markets.

The bioeconomy is an economy based on the sustainable production and conversion of biomass, for a range of food, health, fibre and industrial products and energy, where renewable biomass encompasses any biological material to be used as raw material. Norway has unique advantages to in terms of agriculture, forestry and marine resources, for example, the strong tradition for sustainable breeding, has resulted in genetic material for animals, fish and plants that are both healthy and high-yielding. This is also an important reason for the minimal use of antibiotics and pesticides in Norwegian food production.

The objective of Heidner is to improve sustainability in the food production, by developing innovative products, services and know-how and thereafter exporting the results globally.

Hedmark Kunnskapspark facilitates Heidner cluster management, and was in 2013 benchmarked by the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA) and was awarded with the Bronze Label.
